Workshops should be prepared mainly with reference to: Globalisation patterns in EU trade and investment. It is an online Eurostat publication presenting a summary of recent European Union (EU) statistics on economic aspects of globalisation, focusing on patterns of EU trade and investment. Statistics about trade (like how data are collected) are explained in the User guide on European statistics on international trade in goods.
Class organization outline:
- Teacher starts with an introduction based on the long version.
- Each student makes a list of elements that characterize trading position of a selected country.
- After presentation of their findings students will discuss together benefits and drawbacks of trade.
- The lesson ends with a debate on economic cooperation and competition in the European Union.
- By the end of the lesson, students should be able to describe the economic impact of trade in the EU. They should also be able to identify countries which benefit the most and the least from trade in the EU.
- Students discover how the EU economic cooperation and competition helps their national economies to grow in a globalized world.
